Who is offering this scholarship?

 

 

The Southeastern New England Defense Industry Alliance is offering multiple $500 scholarships for the Fall/Spring term to matriculating Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) students for the 2011/2012 academic year. 

 

Who is eligible and what are the requirements?

 

 

Any student, a permanent resident of the Southeastern New England area (Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts), who is currently matriculating at a College or University in one of those three states in a STEM-related field and expects to enter the 5th semester or later equivalent for the Fall 2011/Spring 2012 academic year is eligible for an award.

 

The scholarship award criteria are based on.

  1.  The student’s demonstrated interest in STEM education and a subsequent career in science, technology or education. STEM includes any science or technology subject (e.g. physics, chemistry, physiology, biology), any engineering related field or specialty (e.g. electronic, chemical, civil, mechanical, computer science) and any field related to mathematics (e.g. operations research, statistics). If you have a question about whether or not your major study area qualifies, please contact one of the individual listed below and a determination will be provided to you.   
  2. The Student’s Proven Overall and STEM Academic Record (i.e., Grade Point Average)
  3. Honors and extra-curricular activities.

  4. Other Stem-related endeavors (e.g., volunteer work or employment in a STEM-related field)
  5. Endorsement from a Faculty Member.

  6. Other Endorsements (if any)

  7. Endorsement as a family member of a SENEDIA member company employee (if applicable). Employees of SENEDIA Member Companies and family members of employees of SENEDIA Member Companies will be given extra consideration.

When do the completed applications need to be received and where should they be submitted?

 

            Deadline:   Midnight March 30, 2011

 

 

IMPORTANT: The deadline is the time of RECEIPT at SENEDIA NOT the postmark date, so please ensure adequate time for postal delays.

 

If you submit via e-mail ensure that you obtain a read receipt for your e-mail.  All forms submitted electronically should be attached as Adobe Acrobat (pdf) files.

When will I be notified?

 

 

The scholarship committee will notify you on or about May 14th, 2011, via US Postal Service or e-mail depending on your preference noted in the application.

 

The scholarship check will be presented at a SENEDIA meeting held in mid-June. You and your family, at your option, will be invited as our guests.
