Raytheon’s Center in Portsmouth Provides “Seapower” Solutions With more than 1,600 employees, Raytheon’s Seapower Capability Center (SCC) in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, is one of the largest employers on Aquidneck Island. The SCC is Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems’ (IDS) mission center dedicated to the development and delivery of critical seapower capabilities to naval and maritime customers around the world.
Headed by Charles “Tom” Bush, IDS vice president of Seapower Capability Systems, Raytheon’s Seapower Capability Center produces submarine and surface ship combat management, anti-submarine, mine warfare, and integrated ship systems, as well as sensors and torpedoes for U.S. and allied fleets. As mission center executive of the SCC, Bush oversees Raytheon’s operations in the state of Rhode Island and is responsible for the successful execution of all IDS seapower business.
Key programs include the Zumwalt-class destroyer; submarine combat systems for Collins-, Seawolf-, and Virginia-class submarines; AN/AQS-20 Minehunting Sonar; AN/ASQ-235 Airborne Mine Neutralization System; AN/AQS-22 Airborne Low Frequency Sonar; MK48 and MK54 torpedoes; NATO SEASPARROW Surface Missile System; and Project Athena Multi-Domain Awareness System.
