Dec 2011 Defense and Textile Day a Great Success

Rhode Island’s Congressional Delegation joins RIEDC, RI PTAC, RIMES and SENEDIA in sponsoring RI Defense & Textile Day  

The annual Defense and Textile Day, held on December 5, 2011, showcased the capabilities of the RI Defense Textile industry and other defense related technologies for the private sector and students from the College of Engineering, the Textile and Computer Science Departments.

The attendees had the opportunity to hear about doing business with the U.S. Army, The Future of Undersea Warfare, Information Assurance, Internet Security and U.S. Special Forces Acquisitions.          

The event, held at the University of Rhode Island Memorial Union Ballroom in Kingston, RI featured U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, U.S. Senator Jack Reed U.S. Representative James Langevin, U.S. Representative David Cicilline, Major General Kevin McBride, RI Adjutant General, znd RIEDC Executive Director Keith Stokes.

The featured speaker was Brigadier General John McGuiness, Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Army Research Development & Engineering Command  (RDECOM) who talked about “Doing Business with the US Army”.

Dr. Theresa Baus 2 and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC), Division Newport talked on the "The Future of Undersea Warfare”.  

Other speakers included Professor Martin Bide, Chair, URI Department of Textiles;  Prof. Victor Fay-Wolfe, URI Digital Forensics & Cyber Security Center; Prof. Doug White, Roger Williams University Information Assurance program, Renée N.
